The Jamboo by YoYoJam is a composite-material yo-yo first introduced at the 2008 U.S. Nationals. It is made out of laminated bamboo that is then machined to the shape of the yo-yo. The Jamboo also has the classic YoYoJam aluminum weight rings on the outside, as well as a C-bearing and silicone O-ring response. During development, Dale Bell experimented with different types of wood for the prototypes of the yo-yo.
The Jamboo was well received, except for complaints that the wood wasn't finished well, which results in high amounts of string-cutting friction. Many owners fixed this problem by sanding their Jamboos to smooth out the bumps and rough spots, staining it to give it a nice wooden color, and then clear coating it for a nice, glossy finish. It has a wooden feel and is much like the Dark Magic in terms of performance. The disadvantage is it is very expensive, averaging at around $76.50 USD or more.
Trivia[]
- By far, no other company has made a yo-yo out of bamboo.
- Its name is a play on words for "jam" and "bamboo".
