The Diabolo is a skill toy that is often mistaken for a yoyo, and is capable of tricks similar to offstring yo-yoing. Advanced diabolo play also incorporates elements of Freehand yo-yoing. Unlike a yo-yo, the Diabolo is much larger, and instead of tying the string to the hand, the string is connected to two sticks held in the hands. Rather than the string being wound up in order to spin the diabolo, instead the spin is induced by creating friction with the string by extending and whipping the sticks back and forth. It is important to note the spelling is not Diablo but Diabolo which is a Greek word that means "To throw across".
